ALTERNATE ENDINGS

7' x 12' x 10'

Steel, fairy-tales on paper, foam.. 2024

Situated in Juniper Sculpture Park,  Alternate Endings considers the relationship between a childhood vernacular, particularly female and fairy-tale oriented, and an adult vocabulary long-shaped by fictional frameworks. In this sculptural work, body fragments are distributed between the looping bars of a form reminiscent of an oversized child’s toy, seemingly close enough to draw together along the bars but in reality, forever separated by the limits imposed by its arbitrary steel skeleton. Though ostensibly made of paper, these works have foam cores that, if saturated with rain water, have the potential to destabilize the entire work, a metaphor for the precarity of a society based on these loaded, deceptively innocent narratives - highly vulnerable in turn to environmental shifts and climatic context.
